Frequently Asked Questions
1) How does the "Save as a new photo" button work in most browsers?
• Chrome, Edge, Firefox, and Opera
• Safari on Mac desktops and laptops
• Safari 13 or higher on iOS devices
When you click or tap the
Save as a new photo
button, the Slim Picture Maker
saves your modified image in your
Downloads folder
using the following file name format:
sp-
yyyy-mm-dd-at-
hh-mm-ss-
minus-
nn-percent.jpg
OR
sp-
yyyy-mm-dd-at-
hh-mm-ss-
plus-
nn-percent.jpg
The users of Windows can find their
Downloads folder in File Explorer.
Technically, it corresponds to the folder C:\Users\username\Downloads.
The users of mobile devices can find the newly saved photo files in their
Files app.
It is a file management app available on both
Android and
iOS devices.
Samsung's Android-based devices may have the file management app
My Files.
Enabling the Save As dialog option
Most browsers can be configured to give you more control at the time of saving a file,
for example Chrome has an Advanced Settings option described as:
"Ask where to save each file before downloading".
If you enable this option, the browser will start using a
Save As dialog box
that allows you to select the destination folder and to specify the name of the new photo file.
You can either accept or change the folder and the file name suggested by the Slim Picture Maker.
Bear in mind that if you ever decide to change
the unique file name
(with the current date and time) suggested by the Slim Picture Maker to the name of
an existing file, the browser will display a prompt
asking you to confirm
that you want to replace that file.
2) How does the "Save as a new photo" button work in Safari 11 or 12 on iOS devices?
When you tap the
Save as a new photo
button, Safari 11 or 12 on iOS devices
only prepares the image for saving
and displays it in the same browser tab or a new browser tab, at which point you have to
save it manually as described below.
Saving manually on iPads, iPhones, and iPods
Press and hold the displayed image and select
the
Save Image option.
When an image is saved manually, Safari comes up with the name of the new photo file.
